Balakrishnudu movie full review:-
Balakrishnudu is a Telugu movie starring Nara Rohit and Regina Cassandra
in prominent roles. The cast also includes Ramya Krishnan and Balireddy
Prudhviraj. It is an action romance directed by Pavan Mallela, with Mani Sharma
as the music director, forming part of the crew.
Ravinder Reddy (Aditya Menon), a factionist
and a good-hearted person is killed by his enemy Pratap Reddy (Ajay).
Ravinder's legacy is then carried forward by his sister Bhanumati Devi (Ramya
Krishna). Pratap Reddy goes to jail for murder and vows to comeback to his
hometown and kill both Bhanumati Devi and her niece Aadhya (Regina Cassandra).
Aadhya grows up in the city, far away from violence. On the eve of Pratap
Reddy's release from jail, in order to protect her, a bodyguard Balakrishna aka
Balu (Nara Rohit) is hired and at the same time, a cash reward of Rs 10 crore
is announced by Bhanumati Devi for anyone who can capture or kill Pratap Reddy.
In the line of duty, Balakrishna accidentally runs into Pratap Reddy on the
highway. Then unfolds a game of one-upmanship between Pratap Reddy and Balu, a
fight for survival.
Balakrishnudu is a road story that unfolds in a span of one day. In such
stories, you normally expect the screenplay to be fast-paced, racy and
gripping. But we get no such impression and things unfold at their own pace in
a sequential manner, more along the lines of a drama. When half-an-hour into
the film, we can predict the direction the story will eventually take, then how
well you manage to engage the audience depends on how unique your screenplay
is. On that front, Balakrishnudu disappoints.
Nara Rohit has always done films which had some unique point about them.
With Balakrishnudu though, he has gone in for a complete formula film with
action, romance, comedy, songs (including an item number) and some sentiment.
As Balu, he looks handsome and his performance is also good although he
definitely needs to work on his dancing skills if he wants to make a mark as a
mass hero. Regina as Aadhya gets a meaty role and apart from her looks, her
acting is also commendable. Ajay as Pratap Reddy gets a tailor-made role which
he pulls off with panache. Ramya Krishna as the feudalistic Bhanumati Devi is
reminiscent of Baahubali's Sivagami. Kota Srinivas Rao as Bapu is wasted in the
film. There
are quite a few comedians in the film in the form of Vennela Kishore, Srinivas
Reddy, Tagubothu Ramesh and Raghu Babu. None of them make an impression except
for Pruthvi as photojournalist Madhava Rao aka Maddy R. He is clearly the
highlight of the film and its saving grace with a substantial and hilarious
role.
In terms of visual appeal, the song shot abroad on Nara Rohit and Regina
comes out very well on screen. When it comes to execution, debut director Pawan
Mallela does a good job, but the plot line is all too predictable and the music
by Mani Sharma does not help in elevating a cliched script. And that's where
Balakrishnudu falters. For Telugu audiences who have been exposed to scores of
faction films over the years, there is nothing new that the film has to offer.
